Kariega Township Development (KTD) Pilot Project
The Sustainable Livelihoods Foundation NPC (SLF) will collaborate with the Volkswagen Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Trust (VBBBEE Trust) to implement the Kariega Township Development (KTD) Pilot Project. The project aims to showcase a business development support approach suitable to informal micro-enterprises in the township economies surrounding the town of Kariega, Eastern Cape. Through a pilot approach, the project will undertake a series of development and business support interventions over a six-month period, measuring the effectiveness of these interventions to strengthen entrepreneurship and improve the profitability of up to 45 beneficiary businesses operating in surrounding townships.
Through the engagement of sector and business process specialists, interventions will be designed and tailored for each beneficiary sector and implemented through a participatory development approach. Beneficiaries will be required to commit to all training and engagement processes, partake in building social institutions, provide peer-learning and co-invest in their business to maximise the potential outcome of the technical and financial support package. The project will monitor the impact of the interventions against a set of economic, social and organisational benchmarks to quantify the change outcome.
