The project goal was to contribute towards the development and implementation of evidence-based interventions in support of business growth and job-creation in Cape Town’s urban township economies. In support of this goal, the specific Project purpose was to build on SLF’s prior research in the neighbourhoods of Delft South & Eindhoven by undertaking a 3rd wave of the small-area census to develop robust and comparable data on trends in business investment and informal microentrepreneurship over a ten year timeframe. The project presented a unique opportunity to triangulate contemporary evidence (survey results) against previous waves of research undertaken in these sites in 2010/11 and 2015.
The project has resulted in a series of outputs, including high-level information sessions, a comprehensive written report (the current document) and a dataset. An anonymized version of the dataset has been made available for academic research via the partners.
